Budget Buzzword Bingo: Bets in for Trump but not Boris

It’s that time of year again as the Chancellor prepares to inform us all about where the country’s money will be going, but more importantly, it’s the return of Budget Buzzword Bingo!

Everything from ‘China’ to ‘E-Cigarettes’ and ‘Nuclear Power’ are on the list of things that George Osborne might say during his speech, with ‘Referendum’ a near certainty at 1/10 as the UK heads towards voting for its EU fate later this summer.

‘Long Term Economic Plan’ has been a favourite of the Conversative Party, and Osborne is likely to drop in that four-worded quip at 1/5.

‘Hard Working Families’ and ‘Tough Choices’ are both solid contenders as the Government looks set to remind us that difficult times still lay ahead.

‘Climate Change’ is a 3/1 shot, while ‘E-Cigarettes’ is at 4s and Newcastle United fans might fancy backing ‘Zero Hours’ at 5s.

Departing London Mayor Boris Johnson is 6/1 to be mentioned,  but there’s already been demand for another big name to crop up.

The odds that Mr Osborne mentions American Republican candidate Donald Trump have been slashed from 33/1 to 16s following a string of bets.

Matthew Shaddick of Ladbrokes said: “We’re already staring at some big losses if President Trump becomes a reality, so the last thing we need right now would be for Osborne to mention him in his speech.”

And then there’s the question of Mr Osborne’s tie?

Blue is the firm favourite at 5/4, with Green and Purple – both chosen colours in the past by the Chancellor- are close behind at 3/1 and 4/1 respectively.

Black is a 25/1 shot, while it’s a huge 66/1 Mr Osborne throws us all a 1980’s Prom-esque curveball with a White tie.
