He’s declared himself the ‘presumptive nominee’ after sweeping home to five state wins from five and the Donald Trump bandwagon showed no sign of losing momentum last night.

The Republican candidate claimed victory in each of Connecticut, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island, to move ever nearer to claiming the GOP’s nomination before July’s party convention.

Trump is now just 287 delegates short of the required total, while over in the Democrat race Hillary Clinton took four primary results from five, with rival Bernie Sanders snatching the win in Rhode Island.

Former Secretary of State Clinton is now just 242 short of the delegates needed to claim her party’s nomination, with Sanders some 800 behind.

Tuesday’s Primary results saw Trump’s odds of replacing Barack Obama in the White House next year fall from 4/1 to 7/2, with Clinton remaining favourite at 1/3.

Trump’s odds again reflect the incredible year he’s enjoyed, having been a 150/1 shot 12 months ago.

Matthew Shaddick of Ladbrokes said: “After Leicester City at 5,000/1 and Jeremy Corbyn at 100/1, the last thing the bookies need is another high profile, big priced winner in Trump.”

We seem destined for a Clinton/Trump showdown in November, with the Democrat favourite seeing her odds of running for the party hit a new stronghold at 1/25.

Sanders’ latest beating has pushed the Vermont Senator out to 14/1, his longest price since last June.

Trump is now 2/9 to run for the Republicans, with Ted Cruz 4/1.

The Texas Senator wasn’t expected to fare well in these latest primaries, but with Indiana and Kentucky still to come, Cruz will hold out hope for a little while yet.

He needs results soon though, with all the signs growing stronger and stronger to a Clinton versus Trump race for the White House in November.
