We’re less than a month away from Christmas, and this year there’s a whole host of strong contenders for the number one spot in the charts.

Ladbrokes News takes a look at the leading runners in the market, along with a couple of wild outsiders that could just cause an upset.

Despite facing stiff competition from three other hopefuls, X Factor favourite Matt Terry is one of those currently heading the market.

Though we’re yet to hear what his winner’s song will be (he’s not even made it to the final yet!), our traders reckon he’s got a 5/2 chance of becoming the eighth X Factor contestant to grab the festive top-spot.

But he shares joint favourtism with the London Hospices Choir, and charity singles have a habit of pipping the X Factor winner’s song to the post in recent years. In fact, three of the last five Christmas number ones have been from choirs.

Another surprise frontrunner is Inspiral Carpets, following the death of 44-year-old drummer Craig Gill earlier this month. The Greater Manchester band have a 4/1 chance of having their first number one this Christmas.

Clean Bandit currently top the charts, and 12/1 says they can keep hold of that position for another four weeks, while the same price says we see a sudden surge in sales of David Bowie records.

It’s rumoured that Ed Sheeran penned the X Factor winner’s track, but 20/1 says he has his first number one since December 2014.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Christmas without us mentioning The Pogues, and it’s 33/1 for ‘Fairytale of New York’ to be a Christmas number one for the first time since it was released way back in 1987.

There’s even room way down at the bottom of the market for not one but TWO Jeremy Corbyn-themed bands, who are set to rival each other for the top spot.

However, Robb Johnson and the Corbynistas and the Cast of Corbyn the Musical are both 100/1 outsiders.
