The Safety Net – Slow and steady wins the betting race

The safety net bet ventures onto new ground for the first time today as we are leaving tennis alone to turn our attentions to what looks like a comfortable horse racing winner at Market Rasen.

Yesterday was a mixed day for the safety net bet as after four successive winners, we suffered our first setback when Gilles Simon picked up an unexpected injury in his tennis clash with Adrian Mannarino at the AEGON Championships and had to retire.

However, we immediately got back on the winning bandwagon when Andy Roddick beat Kevin Anderson in straight sets at the same tournament.

This victory took our balance to £100.50, which is still a nice profit on the £50 we started with last week.

Today’s safety net bet that we expect to add another £20 to our total comes in the 15:00 at Market Rasen, where Points Of View is currently available at a very tasty 4/6.

To ensure our £20 profit, we will be staking £30 on Points Of View to win the five-runner beginners’ chase in what looks on paper to be between just two of the entrants.

Points Of View easily has the best form in the race and has travelled strongly in his last two starts, only to find one horse too good in the final stages on each occasion.

He has also jumped well on the whole in each race, which is not something that can be said of chief rival Stage Acclaim.

Stage Acclaim finished second on his debut over fences when making some costly blunders at Worcester and is likely to improve for that run.

But, his win percentage over hurdles was not the best and that fact he races prominently should only play into the hands of Points Of View, who should have enough in the tank to deliver a successful late challenge.

Of the other runners, Laureldean River has already finished well behind Points Of View and re-opposes again on level terms, Eco Boxer has never previously threatened in Class Four company and Alfloramoor already looks fully exposed.

Current Status:
Bank: £100.50
Today’s stake: £30
Best case scenario: £120.50
Worst case scenario: £80.50

Last Safety Net bet: Roddick to beat Anderson 1/3
