The Tercentary Stakes is promising to be a thriller for all involved and while Remote is the current favourite at 3/1, a surprise could be in the offing with Elkaayed also well-placed for success at 11/2.

There are plenty of reasons to back the reigning champion trainer John Gosden and Remote to romp to glory at Royal Ascot.

The progressive son of Dansili has been in impressive form of late, winning over 1m2f in a Newbury maiden before claiming a second success in a strong Doncaster handicap.

Ultimately, the proof will be in the pudding, with the three-year-old Remote relatively untried at pattern level going into this showdown.

Away from Gosden’s colt, the pick of Elkaayed could prove a tempting tip as a good each-way bet in this highly-competitive 12-runner race.

A look at the trends for this event provides plenty of ammunition to suggest Paul Hanagan can ride the USA-bred horse to victory.

For starters, six of the last 11 winners have finished first or second in their previous race, with Hanagan racing to victory last time out on Elkaayed. The Roger Varian-trained horse also has good form over this distance, winning twice before over 1m2f.

With eight of the last 11 winners available at odds shorter than 8/1 for this race, Elkaayed’s current price makes him the perfect choice for success.

More concerningly for favourite Remote is the damning statistic that eight of the previous 11 favourites have finished outside of the places. Whether this trend continues remains to be seen.

And if anyone else is likely to spoil the party, it’s Aidan O’Brien. The Irish trainer has been the toast of Royal Ascot so far and with Indian Chief involved in the Tercentenary Stakes, could be another to look out for at 5/1.
