Mokalif will relish the step-up in trip at Yarmouth today according to five of the UK’s best racing hacks.
Napped by the Racing Post (twice), the Sunday Express, the Nottingham Evening Post and the Guardian, Mokalif is expected to improve on his second place at Lingfield last week and land the 5.00 at Yarmouth at 11/10.
Trained by Michael Bell Mokalif produced his best effort when upped in trip for the 1m3f106y three-year-old handicap at Lingfield last week, and while he is up in class again today, it’s a smiliarly modest field to that he race last week.
Many believe the step-up again to 1m6f17y today should suit and with Hayley Turner on board – one win and two places from seven starts this week – Mokalif will be in capable hands.
His biggest rival looks like Brendan Powell’s May Contain Nuts (5/1) who, like Mokalif, is making the step-up in trip today.
May Contain Nuts finished second to Caravan Rolls at Leicester on his last start in a performance that suggested he would relish further, although Ivanov looks a capable three-year-old and may be worth and each-way punt at 8/1.
Picking one winner is difficult but we’re prepared to stick our neck out here and suggest Mokalif, May Contain Nuts and Ivanov will finish as the first three.
4.50 Newbury: Anton Dolin – 7/2
Peter Thickett is a man on a mission and having tipped up eight winners in a row, The Star’s resident tipster is flying up the Racing Post’s naps competition.
Thickett is a man who usually airs on the side of caution by napping short-priced favourites, but today he’s gone for Anton Dolin to land the Class 5, three-year-old handicap at Newbury.
He’s not alone in thinking Anton Dolin will land a hat-trick of wins today with the Sunday Mirror’s Gary Nutting and the Sunday Mail’s Rockavon also tipping John Dunlop’s gelding, and considering the napping form of both Thickett and Nutting, he has to be respected.
