Had Foxtrot Hotel, the most napped horse by the racing press, obliged yesterday at Pontefract, it would have been a hugely successful day for the racing press.

15 of the 50 tipsters taking part in the Racing Post’s naps competition picked winners yesterday and among those tipsters on a hot streak, Final Liberation (5.15 Redcar), Istishaara (4.30 Salisbury) and Boom And Bust (3.35 Redcar) are the three horses that stand out.

3.35 Redcar: Boom And Bust – 7/2

Marcus Tregoning’s Boom And Bust is searching for a hat-trick of wins at Redcar today and is a popular pick among the racing press with four naps.

The 7/2 favourite handled the step-up in class well at Newbury last time but makes another step-up in class today and faces a strong challenge from both Just Bond (10/1) and Kiwi Bay (6/1).

He’s justified favouritism on his last two starts by making all the running and having won three of his last six starts, has a very solid chance, but with three wins and a place from six starts at Redcar, the pick is backing last year’s winner Kiwi Bay each-way.

4.30 Salisbury: Istishaara – 13/8

In what looks a weak renewal at Salisbury it comes as a slight surprise that five of the racing press, including the Sunday Mirror’s Gary Nutting (the current table-topper in the naps competition) have tipped John Dunlop’s three year-old.

Istishaara finished third over this course on her last start following a win at Nottingham at the end of last season.

In Richard Hills she has the strongest jockey in the field and is well-weighted, but in Saint Helena (7/1) and Isolate (7/1), Istishaara faces two strong rivals and the value is in backing Isolate each-way.

5.15 Redcar: Final Liberation – 11/4

If the 4.30 at Salisbury is a weak renewal, this is a desperately weak renewal but considering two of the top three tipsters, Karl Hedley of The Irish Field and Bob Downing of the Shropshire Star, have napped Final Liberation, he has to be respected.

Of the 15 runners in this race, none of them have yet registered a win and the betting will be the best guide to this race.
