It’s the first day of August and there will be plenty of pundits hoping that means a change in fortune.

July wasn’t a great month for the pundits with plenty struggling to nap winners, and August offers the writers in the Racing Post naps competition a chance to end the slump.

Two men who aren’t slumping are Templegate of The Sun and The North of the Racing Post and Templegate will be looking for a fourth straight winner with Oneofapear today.

“He won over this course and distance last year and has a good record when fresh,” said The Sun’s star tipster.

“Despite there being only six runners there is sure to be a strong pace as half of the field likes to make the running. That will suit my fancy well.”

15:15 Ripon: Oneofapear – 11/2

This six-runner Class 4 Handicap looks a tricky race to call and Jonny Lesters Hair is the one currently heading the betting at 5/2.

Having won at Beverley last Tuesday, the favourite is carrying a 6lb penalty and while he has course and distance form from last year, he’s opposable today.

Oneofapear also has course and distance form from last season but he hasn’t been all that impressive for his connections since and barring a second place at Doncaster on his first start of this season, he’s been well beaten in his last two races.

His last start was almost two months ago so he will be coming in to the race fresh and his three runs following layoffs have seen the horse finish 1, 3, 6 and 2.

The only three-year-old in the field New Edition has shown some solid form in his seven career starts and at 7/1 he looks plenty of each-way value and would be the pick of the field.
