Evening meetings at Pontefract would not normally generate lots of attention, but many of the nation’s tipsters will be watching Foxtrot Hotel more closely tonight.

The 19:30 at Pontefract this evening has divided opinion, but Foxtrot Hotel remains the most popular horse among tipsters across all of today’s meetings.

Foxtrot Hotel is napped six times to win the race, with Newsboy in The Daily Mirror, The Guardian, Computerman in The Express, The Times’ Rob Wright, The Press in York and Racing Post Trading Post all picking him as their most likely winner of the day.

Peter Winkworth’s horse has done little wrong in his career to date, finishing second in his debut maiden and then winning another maiden comfortably since when sent off as the odds-on favourite.

Meanwhile, L’ami Louis, who beat Foxtrot Hotel on his debut, has since gone on to finish among the places in a higher grade.

Running against Foxtrot Hotel is Jade, who is the daily nap of The Newcastle Journal and the Blackpool Gazette.

Jade’s only career victory in her five races so far came at Pontefract, but there is the belief that the horse may be better suited to 5f rather than 6f, which is today’s distance.

Foxtrot Hotel is 9/4 to win on his handicap debut, with Jade available at 5/1.

The most in-form tipster of the moment is Peter Thickett from The Star, who is on a run of five consecutive victories.

His pick today is Joker Choker in the 15:45 at Newton Abbott, who runs in a race over hurdles that looks distinctly short of quality.

Joker Choker won a similar race over course and distance last month and despite conceding weight to all of the opposition, Nicky Henderson’s horse should have little trouble completing a double at 2/1.

The only real opposition appears to be Lava Lamp, who has showed signs of improvement of late and could step up further over a longer distance.
