The latest running of the Oaks is upon us and we’re all set for what should be a thrilling two days at Epsom Downs.

Rhododendron heads the betting for the fillies’ Classic, the feature race this Friday, and she’s been backed off the boards in the week leading up to this year’s renewal.

The ITV Racing cameras will be showing the first five races on the card from Surrey meaning that, aside from the big one, there’s plenty to get stuck into.

Here’s our look at how Oaks day could pan out…

NAP – De Bruyne Horse – 14:00 Epsom

Ryan Moore is set to be back in the saddle onboard the Richard Hannon-trained De Bruyne Horse and we fancy him to enjoy a much better time of it this time around.

Moore took the reins for a disappointing debut at Newmarket in which Way Of Wisdom finished eight-and-a-half lengths in front.

However, this two-year-old got his own back in emphatic style when scoring by a seven-length margin upped in trip at Ripon last time out and we’re backing him to repeat the trick here.

Cardsharp could also appreciate 6f while Zap won a decent enough contest on his first career start at York. But our selection looks to have the measure of them all.

NB – Enable – 16:30 Epsom

Well, we had to take on the jolly, didn’t we?

Make no mistake, Rhododendron is the one to beat with the 1000 Guineas runner-up perhaps a tad unlucky to miss out at Newmarket.

However, she should stay further and Ballydoyle will no doubt have done their tactical homework to ensure their leading mount gets a good foothold on proceedings.

However, Cheshire Oaks heroine Enable is a very solid alternative with Frankie Dettori set to resume riding duties in his bid for a fourth Oaks success.

A taking performance on the Roodee saw her finish in front of even-money shot and re-opposing rival Alluringly and this well-bred daughter of Nathaniel is more than capable of following that up on the biggest stage.

Lively Longshot – What About Carlo – 15:45 Epsom

This handicap is a tricky puzzle to solve with a number of previous course and distance winners declared.

One that appeals at a price is the Eve Johnson Houghton-trained What About Carlo, a horse with an interesting past.

Seen last autumn trailing behind Moon Racer over hurdles in a Grade 2 trial at Cheltenham, the six-year-old has since returned to action on the level.

He was third in this contest in 2016, as well as being a dual winner at Epsom in the past, and we’re putting our faith in another big run.
