The feature race of the three-day Craven meeting headlines this Thursday with seven horses set to put their 2000 Guineas credentials on the line at Newmarket.

Yesterday saw Ladbrokes ambassador and legendary jockey Frankie Dettori team-up with John Gosden to secure another memorable Nell Gwyn Stakes success, this time with Daban (now 14/1 for the 1000 Guineas).

And now it’s the boys’ turn to show they’ve got what it takes to win a Classic at HQ in under a months’ time.

We’ve gone leftfield with our selection for the big one and a few of the other contests set to feature on ITV Racing.

Here’s how we’re calling it…

NAP – Salateen – 14:25 Newmarket

Course and distance winner Salateen is the obvious pick for us here and we’re backing him to come on further from his third at Lingfield on Good Friday.

That run, which was preceded by victory in the Lady Wulfruna Stakes last month, puts this David O’Meara-trained charge ahead of a number of his rivals.

And with Ryan Moore doing the steering we fancy his class and race sharpness will shine through.

NB – Victory Angel – 13:50 Newmarket

Roger Varian’s Victory Angel wasn’t the easiest of customers when preparing to line-up at Doncaster last time out.

But he still got the job done to secure a maiden victory, following some previous appearances in hot company, and we fancy a follow-up effort at HQ.

An attractive mark is another major plus and the booking of Silvestre De Sousa does nothing to dampen our enthusiasm.

Lively Longshot – Eminent – 15:35 Newmarket

On paper this is a pretty bold shout given the leading claims of some in this Craven field, especially Aidan O’Brien’s War Decree and Racing Post Trophy winner Rivet.

But we’re willing to stick our necks on the line and throw our weight behind Eminent.

Trainer Martyn Meade has been bullish about the claims of this son of Frankel. And while he didn’t beat much over course and distance on debut, the manner of that victory and the positive vibes from the stable suggest our pick is one to keep on side.

13:50 Newmarket – Victory Angel

14:25 Newmarket – Salateen

14:40 Cheltenham – Briery Belle EW
