Willie Mullins super-mare Annie Power’s withdrawal from Fairyhouse’s Hatton’s Grace Hurdle leaves the Carlow handler’s second-string Zaidpour as 11/10 favourite, but Jessica Harrington’s Jetson is the race’s in-form horse and should be got behind at 4/1 with Ladbrokes.com.
Jetson put seven Cheltenham Festival wins worth of talent to the sword last time out in the Grade One Ladbrokes World Series Hurdle at Punchestown, when seeing off Mullins stalwart Quevega and Rebecca Curtis’ Welsh raider At Fisher’s Cross.
The step down in trip from 3m to 2m4f should not be too much of a worry as the horse has won over this distance before and posted a smart fifth-place finish on good ground in Cheltenham’s Pertemps Network Final in March, barely two-and-half lengths off the winner Fingal Bay.
He had that animal almost eight lengths behind him at Punchestown, suggesting Jetson is a nine-year-old on an upward curve, and with gritty performances repeatedly coming regardless of conditions under foot, Harrington’s charge looks a great bet.
There’s plenty of quality left in this race, with Colin Bowe’s Little King Robin, who had clocked up six of her eight career victories since June before being beaten out of sight by Mullins’ Hurricane Fly and Harrington’s Jezki last time out at Punchestown, an intriguing candidate at 10/3.
However, for a saver get behind massive outsider King of The Picts each way at 66/1.
The five-year-old was beaten even further by the aforementioned pair in Little King Robin’s last race and has been blitzed by Bowe’s mare before, but he ran a great race last December to snatch a place eight lengths behind The Tullow Tank at Leopardstown.
For a young horse he’s certainly mixing it in the right company, having claimed third behind Vautour and The Tullow Tank in a small-field Grade One hurdle at the same venue in February, and trainer John Patrick Shanahan has only brought one horse to Fairyhouse, so there’s clearly hope.
