Frankie: Shergar Cup would be fitting venue for the 3,000

It’s great to be relaxing at home with my wife and family after flying back from Germany following another big race success. But there’s little time to rest with a trip to Chelmsford on the agenda.

As you know I’m still searching for that 3,000th UK winner and I’ve got a few decent chances tomorrow.

They’re not penalty kicks but the likes of Wahash and Haddajah represent good opportunities to add to my total.

I’d like to come away with at least one winner from the card. If I can then I’ll be well set-up for the week and hitting my target at this weekend’s Shergar Cup.

Realistically, I need four winners before I get to Ascot. That way I can go there with the confidence of reaching my goal.

The way the Shergar Cup works means I’ll get a shot onboard one favourite so if we’re in good shape then that could be the one that brings the house down!

As a jockey you live for the big race days and to reach the 3,000 in front of a large crowd would be the icing on the cake for me.

Ultimately, the Shergar Cup is a real ‘people’s occasion’ so that would make it special too. I’m very proud to have been involved on so many previous occasions and it’s always good to see other riders you might not normally spend time with.

Oh, and of course it’s always fantastic to be the Team Europe skipper! There’s always a lot of banter between the teams and a great atmosphere in the weighing room.

And what’s interesting is that the competition usually comes down to the last race so the 3,000 could well be the one that closes the card. Let’s wait and see.

In terms of the rest of August, it’s all geared towards York and the big races in France.

And naturally, a lot of people have been asking me about what’s in store for Galileo Gold.

He’s a Guineas winner, a St. James’s Palace Stakes winner and a Sussex Stakes second. He’s got to go for all the big ones and his programme is laid out for him.

He was only beaten by a short distance at Glorious Goodwood and we’re going to fight another day.

Meanwhile, my winner from last week Mehmas looks handy. He’s now won a couple of Group 2s so you’d think he’s got to run in the Prix Morny and take on Lady Aurelia. That’ll be interesting and he looks a smart horse.
