Who knew Mondays at Musselburgh could be so lucrative? One racing fan did and it wasn’t just the Scottish track that offered big returns with our latest #BookieBashing hero taking us to the cleaners from both sides of the border.

A mega £4 each-way four-fold came in and duly delivered a whopping £19,570.40 with selections from three race tracks doing the business.

The bet was struck just in the nick of time too with only two minutes to go until the first winner was off.

That honour went to Quick Decisson in the 15:20 at Musselburgh with the 15/2 shot getting up by a neck to ensure a winning start.

A mad dash to Newcastle followed where the Richard Fahey-trained Young John managed to get the better of the jolly to complete a quick-fire double in the 15:30.

And if our punter was beginning to think that their luck was in then they surely would’ve been starting to sniff an almighty payday once 12/1 outsider The Mighty Don held on to score at Plumpton.

As it was, a trip back to Musselburgh was on the agenda 10 minutes later with the big prize now firmly in sight.

James Moffatt’s Smart Ruler had been running fairly well throughout the summer without ever really threatening. In fact, the 10-year-old veteran hadn’t won a race in two years.

However, that was set to change when Brian Hughes moved his charge into position and promptly hit the front two out in the 15:50.

The rest took care of itself and we can only imagine the SCENES when he scored by half a length.

Overall, there’s certainly been worse ways to spend a Monday and winning the best part of 20 grand in little over half an hour will be pretty tough to top.
