Willie Mullins has enjoyed a stranglehold on the Cheltenham Top Trainer prize in recent years but our punters seem quite confident that his incredible run is about to end.
Mullins is just 4/6 to take the spoils for the fifth year in a row and the sixth time in his career.
However, 11/4 second favourite Nicky Henderson is the one the majority have been backing in the lead-up to this year’s Cheltenham Festival.
Henderson is the only trainer in the last seven years to have broken Mullins’ monopoly on the Top Trainer accolade with his two wins in 2010 and 2012 sandwiched in between the Closutton handler’s successes.
And the Seven Barrows saddler has a fantastic chance of playing the role of spoiler once again.
Henderson has Arkle jolly Altior, Champion Hurdle favourite Buveur D’air and JLT Novices’ Chase chance Top Notch amongst other star names at his disposal.
That sort of firepower will certainly make him a threat although he isn’t the only trainer capable of challenging Mullins.
Gordon Elliott is leading the way in Ireland and he’ll have his own impressive contingent at Prestbury Park.
At 9/2, there’s certainly value in backing his Cheltenham assault given some of the big guns currently residing in his yard.
Meanwhile, Paul Nicholls is 12/1 to win a first Top Trainer prize since 2009 with Colin Tizzard – down but not out following injury to Thistlecrack – a 16/1 chance.
