Paul Nicholls may have enjoyed a decent number of winners at the Cheltenham Festival in recent years and Join Together looks a decent candidate to land the trainer a first ever winner in the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle this year.
Join Together is 8/1 in the Cheltenham betting to win the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle and was mightily impressive when scoring at Chepstow on his latest run last month.
Some may argue that Join Together is held on previous form by fellow Albert Bartlett contender Court In Motion, but there are numerous reasons why this form is capable of being reversed.
Firstly, Nicholls suggested that Join Together was ridden too far off the pace in his early runs and therefore was caught a little flat-footed when the pace began to quicken up front.
This problem seemed easily remedied at Chepstow when he was ridden far closer to the pace and Nicholls will be confident his horse can go one better than when Najaf finished runner up 12 months ago.
The Albert Bartlett Novices’ Chase has only taken place on six previous occasions and Join Together also fits much of the criteria common among the previous winners.
All six previous winners had tasted success at a distance of at least 2m4f, which Join Together achieved with his victory over three miles at Chepstow.
Furthermore, four of the six winners had previously experienced a run over three miles.
Another fact is that five of the victors had come from the top five in the Albert Bartlett betting in the year that they triumphed.
Join Together is currently fourth favourite in the Cheltenham betting behind 6/1 joint market leaders Back In Focus and Bob’s Worth, with Court In Motion priced at 7/1.
