The Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe is next on the agenda for Pour Moi after his victory in the Epsom Derby.
Pour Moi showed a devastating turn of foot to come from last to first to win the Derby and upset the Queen’s quest for a first victory in the Classic with Carlton House.
This victory was also the first victory in the Derby for trainer Andre Fabre and now he will prepare the horse for another Group One race, albeit one where Fabre has witnessed far more success in the past.
Pour Moi is 5/1 in the early Prix De L’arc De Triomphe odds and a victory would represent the eighth in the Longchamp showpiece for Fabre.
After winning the Derby, Fabre said: “What surprised me is he had two accelerations – one to catch up and then he hit another gear. This was the sign of a champion.
“At the moment the plan is to give him a summer break and then go for the Arc.”
Peintre Celebre and Hurricane Run are perhaps the most well known of Fabre’s Arc winners, while Rail Link was the most recent success story in 2006.
The course and distance should prove no problem for Pour Moi as he is a previous winner at Longchamp, while the 1m4f trip is the same as in the Derby.
The only real concern is whether Pour Moi has the ability to beat older horses, with the Arc open to runners aged three or older.
However, three-year-olds have triumphed in seven of the last eight runnings of the Arc, with the one exception being the success of Dylan Thomas in 2007.
