Fiorente will line-up as the short-priced favourite for Tuesday’s Gordon Stakes at Glorious Goodwood following Nathaniel’s fine win the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

Fiorente was five lengths behind Nathaniel when they met in the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot and considering what Nathaniel has gone on to achieve, that doesn’t look such a bad result for Sir Michael Stoute’s three-year-old.

Connections of Nathaniel will now eye the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp rather than the St Leger at Doncaster as their next move, and Nathaniel’s absence from the final Classic of the season makes the St Leger betting very interesting.

Fiorente is now an 8/1 shot for the Leger and should he justify his favouritism at Goodwood on Tuesday, there’s every reason his Leger odds will shorten.

The Michael Owen-owned Brown Panther is a 10/1 shot following his disappointing run in the German Derby in Hamburg and Aidan O’Brien’s Seville heads the betting at 6/1.

Sea Moon is a 7/1 chance while Treasure Beach is 8/1 and Memphis Tennessee is 9/1.

The St Leger is now a very open race following Nathaniel’s withdrawal and the final Classic of the season is shaping up to be just that.

Having become the first three-year-old to win the King George since 2003, Nathaniel will be supplemented for the prestigious Prix de l’Arc in which he will resume his battle with Workforce.

Workforce was well beaten by Nathaniel at Ascot on Saturday but Stoute’s horse remains 6/1 to win the Arc with just Pour Moi ahead of him in the betting at 5/2.

St Nicholas Abbey was disappointing in the King George and he is now a 14/1 shot for the Arc.

They will be two fascinating races later in the season but Glorious Goodwood will take centre stage next week as the Flat racing season continues to churn out classic races.

However Saturday’s King George was soured by the news of Rewilding’s tragic accident and thoughts are with the connections of the horse who will be remembered for snatching victory from So You Think in the 2011 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot.
