The 2011 Hinton Stakes looks a very competitive running based on the Royal Ascot form, but it’s the form of Frederick Engels who won at Newmarket yesterday that holds the key to this race.

Shumoos beat Frederick Engels by a clear four lengths in her first ever career start at Haydock back in May, and that seriously impressive run should be considered ahead of her run in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot in which she was the beaten favourite.

On that day at Ascot Shumoos was the subject of a huge gamble because Frederick Engels had won the Windsor Castle Stakes the day before, and while that parallels with what we’re witnessing at Newmarket’s July meeting, it was just the shoulder of Best Terms that pipped Shumoos at Ascot.

She’s worth a second chance today and she heads the market at 11/4, but she faces some very strong prospects in Inetrobil (6/1) and the unbeaten Miss Work Of Art (8/1) who is searching for a fourth consecutive win.

There have been six winning favourites in this race over the last ten years which makes for favourable reading for Shumoos backers, but the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot has been a fine guide for the Hinton and both Inetrobil and Illaunglass ran strongly.

Inetrobil was second and Illaunglass (12/1) third in the Albany and both will relish the give in the ground that the rain has brought to Ascot.

Miss Work Of Art has already amassed £27,936 in career prize money from three starts and has justified favouritism on two of those starts while winning at 5/1 in her second start at Ascot in April.

She’s untried on good ground and that is a worry but trainer Richard Fahey is confident she’ll handle the step up in trip and is looking to find out just how good she is today.
