Well worth following the old hand at the RBC Canadian Open

Members of the PGA Tour to have just contested The Open Championship in Liverpool, the oldest golf tournament in the world, will keep a sense of tradition as they go back to their weekly business at the Canadian Open at the Royal Montreal Golf Club, the oldest golf club in North America.

A short 7,153-yard par 70, Royal Montreal can expect some low scores from some of the field taking part in the 10th edition of the Canadian Open to be held there.

Much like the recent affinity for the old in golfing tournaments, Ladbrokes customers should consider staking their hopes on one of the elder men in the field, 14/1 second-favourite Jim Furyk.

At 44-years-old and a pro golfer since 1992, Furyk has been around long enough to collect 26 career wins and two of them have come in the Canadian Open.

Having won in 2006 with a 14-under-par 266, the Pennsylvania native followed up with another victory the next year, again winning by one stroke, but with a -16 score on that occasion.

Not only does Furyk have a history with the winner’s enclosure at this tournament, but he is also the all-time money leader for the event.

His form this season makes him much more than just a sentimental pick too, having landed nine top-20 finishes in his last 10 starts.

He’s also recorded two solo seconds over the course of the season and ranks 10th in adjusted scoring heading to a course that favours those who can go low. A fourth at The Open isn’t the worst warm-up in the world either.

At 66/1 Tim Clark is the best each-way option to take. His T5 at the John Deere Classic last time out would have obliged an each-way punt and the South African, who has three top-20s in his last six appearances, is a consistent tee-to-green player who can be in the mix once again.
