While Lee Westwood sits back and admires this week’s Andalucia Valderrama Masters action from his TV box, Martin Kaymer will be out on the course attempting to prove himself as the world’s number one golfer.

Tiger Woods will relinquish his 281-week hold on the world number one spot on Sunday when Lee Westwood claims the title despite not featuring in Spain this week.

Westwood has amassed enough ranking points over the year and will overtake Woods this weekend, but a win or second place finish on his own or tied with one player for Kaymer would clinch the title for the German.

And having won his last three European Tournaments that he’s competed in, it’s certainly not beyond Kaymer’s capabilities that he can overcome a strong field in Valderrama.

The German is the 6/1 favourite to win the Andalucia Valderamma Masters.

But his main competitor is US Open champion and Ryder Cup hero Graeme McDowell who is the 14/1 second favourite to win in Spain.

In a field which contains seven of Europe’s triumphant Ryder Cup team, the betting market proves tricky to find a winner and the added incentives for Kaymer makes it hard to oppose the German.

The last time a European Tour tournament was played on the Valderrama course, Kaymer finished second behind Dane Soren Kjeldsen and Kjeldsen is 25/1 to win this week.

Italian youngster Matteo Manassero is high in confidence after his win at the Castello Masters last Sunday, and a consecutive win for the Italian, priced at 25/1, would certainly rock the golfing fraternity.

Northern Ireland golfer Gareth Maybin played some strong consistent golf at the Castello Masters, finishing with a 67 on Sunday and Maybin is 100/1 to win this week.

If Kaymer is to make it four wins in a row, he deserves the number one spot. See the full Andalucia Valderrama Masters betting odds here.
