It’s no surprise to see Tiger Woods head the betting for the Players Championship this weekend at a price of 7/1 given his recent scintillating form.

Woods has won three tournaments already this year and finished in a solid share of fourth at Augusta last month.

But the world number one heads to the TPC Sawgrass course having finished no higher than eighth here since he won the Players Championship in 2001.

Sawgrass’s narrow fairways and overhanging trees punish any lack of accuracy, and with Woods hitting fairways from the tee just 55 per cent of the time this season, even he will need to up his game to claim victory.

Adam Scott will be one to watch after his dramatic play-off win over Angel Cabrera at the Masters four weeks ago.

16/1 says the Australian wins the Players Championship for a second time, following his success in 2004.

Scott has often enjoyed a good weekend at the Florida venue, and was 15th here last year while also bagging a sixth place result in 2007 and eighth place in 2005.

With that Masters win and two other top-ten finishes to boast this season, Scott could well be in the thick of the action come the final day.

Rory McIlroy has never made the cut at TPC Sawgrass, which added to his inconsistent season and struggles with his new clubs, explains a price of 16/1.

The Northern Irishman has still shown flashes of his talent however, finishing in a share of eighth at the WGC Cadillac and second in the Texas Open just a month ago.

He struggled to a two-over par share of 25th at the Masters, but rebuilt some confidence with a four-under finish of tenth at Wells Fargo and could be on the cusp of a return to winning ways.
