Favourite backers got back on track with Tiger Woods’ runaway win in the Cadillac Championship on Sunday, and there’s a lot to like about the market principles in this week’s PGA Tour tournament – the Tampa Bay Championship at Innisbrook Resort’s Copperhead Course.

This quirky layout, that features five par 3s and four par 5s, looks set up to reward punters who side with in-form class acts Adam Scott and Sergio Garcia, while Scott Piercy is another name that should be added to the staking plan.

Garcia has become a player who can put together a number of top-five finishes in succession. The Spaniard’s last win in the Johor Open came a week after fourth place in Thailand, while his previous two victories came back to back in late 2011. Third place at Doral on Sunday, where he ranked second in greens in regulation, could well have set Garcia up for another success. He also has two top 20s at Copperhead on his last two visits.

Scott finished alongside Garcia in the Cadillac Championship, where he scored progressively lower in every round, ending the event with a best of the day Sunday 64. The Australian said that his short game felt ‘better this year than it ever has’ after the final round in Miami and, while he has no serious form at this week’s venue, he did register a Friday 66 a couple of years ago and just the fact he has put the tournament back on his schedule is a tip in itself.

Piercy claimed a top-25 spot last week and drove the ball brilliantly. He was a fast finishing fifth in this event in 2012, when he posted a final round 62 to reward each-way backers. He could easily run a place again this year.

My three off the tee – Garcia, Scott and Piercy.
