Good football commentators are hard to come by and there is a shortage in the market, but while the likes of Martin Tyler and Barry Davies are full of professionalism it’s the guys like Alan Green and Ian Wright that get the tongues wagging.

Love them or loathe them, football needs its colourful commentators loaded with bias and passion otherwise we wouldn’t have any outrageous views to oppose on the terraces.

Without guys like Paul Merson, Phil Thompson and Champagne Charlie Nicholas, we would have to deal with the monotonous tones of Alan Hansen, Alan Shearer, Mark Lawrenson and Scott Minto.

There may be some who totally get under your skin but below we list the five who are guaranteed to get a laugh, albeit at their expense.

5. Sky Sports Fanzone

Made famous by Tim Lovejoy’s “it’s only Ray Parlour” commentary, Sky Sports’ fan zone has become a brilliant platform for watchers finding a laugh at the expense of two ‘fan’s trying to out-banter each other.

4. Ray Hudson

Having described Fabio Capello as “braver than a matador in high heels and a pink tutu”, Hudson has earned a cult following and his Geordie tones currently delight and entertain the American watchers of Gol TV.

3. Bjorge Lillelien

Forever remembered as that Norwegian guy who went a bit crazy following Norway’s 2-1 victory over England in 1981, Lillelien’s “your boy’s took one hell of a beating” rant is the most parodied football commentary today.

2. Chris Kamara

Here’s a guy that really divides opinion. Fans love him and professionals hate him but his ridiculous and foolish humour make him a real hit with the Soccer Saturday watchers and his views can be read weekly in a well known red-top.

1. Tiziano Crudeli

Some of you may be unaware of this Italian genius but a quick glimpse of the above video will have you rolling in the aisles.

As a man who wears his heart on his sleeve, Crudeli followers revel in every joyous moment and mourn every heart-breaking defeat and having earned that level of loyalty, we love the Italian.
