With the furore surrounding the Mercedes and Pirelli testing scandal set to run and run, it’s probably high-time to turn attention to the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

Red Bull have won three of the last four races at the Northamptonshire venue, and Sebastian Vettel is favourite ahead of the race at 13/8 – a price reflecting his strong grip on the championship.

The German dominated last time out in Canada for his third win of the season, and boasts a 36-point advantage over title rival Fernando Alonso.

Vettel’s team-mate Mark Webber has been left in the shadows this season, with just two podium finishes, but the Aussie revels in front of the British crowd and won the Grand Prix in brilliant fashion in both 2010 and 2012, sweeping past Alonso late on in the latter.

The 36-year-old is a tempting 9/1 at a venue where he is a match for anyone, and there’s little doubt he’ll be eager to grab a first win of the year and kick-start a championship challenge.

Those looking for an outside bet if the traditional British rain becomes a factor might want a look at Jenson Button.

The Brit had a nightmare weekend in Canada, qualifying 14th and crossing the line just two places higher in 12th.

The smoother tarmac of Silverstone should see a stronger McLaren performance, and with wet weather always a concern, 66/1 on the 2009 champion for a first victory of the season could attract some attention.

Famously smooth on his tyres, Button has spent much of the season completing races with one stop fewer than his rivals, and that could play into his hands at the British GP with its long, high-speed turns set to provide agony for the Pirelli tyres.

McLaren have won five times in the last 14 years at the home of British racing, as many as any other team.
