The Drivers’ Championship betting has been closed for some time but it will be this weekend in Japan in which Sebastian Vettel claims his title.
Vettel needs just one point to seal the title and having landed pole position in qualifying, only a crash can seemingly stop the German from lifting the title in Japan.
The Red Bull driver did crash at turn eight during practice but Vettel has been so assured this year that it would be a huge surprise if he were to repeat that mistake on Sunday.
Vettel is 8/11 to win Sunday’s Japanese Grand Prix and while a 10th place finish would be enough to seal the title, nine Grand Prix wins already this season suggests Vettel will not be happy driving for tenth.
Having won the last two Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka, it’s fair to say Vettel knows the circuit well and it’s going to take a mighty effort from the drivers behind him to oust him from the front on Sunday.
Jenson Button has more motivation than most with the Briton still able to win the title mathematically, but Button has to win to have any hope of taking the title challenge into the next race in Korea.
Button is 3/1 to win Sunday’s race and posted some solid times in both practice and qualifying, and if anyone is to oust Vettel from top spot, Button can.
Button’s teammate Lewis Hamilton is next in the betting at 7/2 to win the Japanese Grand Prix with Fernando Alonso available at 14/1 and Mark Webber 16/1.
Kamui Kobayashi will start the race from seventh on the grid and while the Sauber-Ferrari driver may be 300/1 to win the race, after posting the fastest time in the first practice session Kobayashi may tempt some at 66/1 to get a podium in front of his home crowd.
Kobayashi is 9/2 to finish in the top six on Sunday and it’s a bet that certainly looks worth taking.
