Only three times since the turn of the Millennium has the driver that started in pole position gone on to win the British Grand Prix.

That’s the stat that Mark Webber will have to overcome if he is to justify his odds of 7/4 to win the British Grand Prix today.

Webber has plenty of confidence heading in to today’s race having won the British Grand Prix last season, but the man next to him on the grid looks the better bet for today’s race.

Not only has Sebastian Vettel dominated the Formula 1 season, he too has experience of winning around Silverstone and after a qualifying session in which his team-mate pipped him to pole by only 0.032 seconds, Vettel has the speed to increase his lead at the top of the drivers championship.

Last year’s British Grand Prix saw plenty of excitement at the start as the two Red Bull teammates, Vettel in pole and Webber in second, battled hard with Webber coming out on top and Vettel suffering a puncture in a collision with Lewis Hamilton.

The safety car came to Vettel’s rescue last year and having been the back marker when the safety car came out, Vettel preceded to pick off the cars in front of him, eventually finishing seventh.

The German will be desperate to land a second British Grand Prix win today and we could see some more antics at the start as Vettel looks to pass Webber.

Fernando Alonso will be hoping the two Red Bull teammates will be preoccupied with the battle for first and the Spaniard, who was just 0.117 seconds slower than Webber in qualifying, has a chance of slipping by both.

Alonso is 7/2 to win today and while he may not be the favoured driver on the F1 circuit, there will be plenty of neutrals cheering on the Spaniard to break-up the Red Bull dominance.

However Vettel is in the form of his life and the German looks the pick of the paddock in the British Grand Prix odds today.
