New Tottenham boss may not have held a training session with his players yet, but will have a good idea where he wants to strengthen his on-pitch personnel already.
It seems that a striker is one of his recruitments of choice, with one of the World Cup’s breakout stars close to the top of his wish list.
Ecuador’s Enner Valencia has put his name in lights during the Brazilian tournament, scoring three times for his country in just two appearances so far and Pochettino is one of three reported Premier League suitors following those performances.
The winger-turned front man only joined current club Pachuca in January but with every passing World Cup minute, his value is soaring and it will be very difficult for the Mexican club to ignore a strong offer should one come in.
Pochettino will have Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado to chose from next season, providing both remain at the club, but will want another option to deliberate over when entering teamsheets at White Hart Lane next season.
The 25-year-old will certainly provide the Argentine manager something different to choose from, as he’s far more fleet-footed than either the Togolese and Spanish alternatives currently leading the Lilywhite line.
Valencia’s scoring form hasn’t been restricted to the World Cup either. He’s knocked in seven goals in just 12 international appearances in the Ecuardorian colours and has been prolific for Pachuca since his new year switch, scoring 18 times in just 23 outings.
What would have been as lengthy a price as possible on the San Lorenzo native to be the World Cup’s Golden Boot winner is now just 25/1 with Ladbrokes, but he’ll need a run into the knockout stages to claim the prize.
Currently the tournament’s joint top scorer, Valencia and his teammates will face France in the final group game knowing a win (and the other result going their way) will seal their spot in the last 16.
