Premier League keeper, USA’s number one stopper and now social media sensation Tim Howard is the talk of the World Cup after his dazzling display between the sticks against Belgium.

The Everton number one made a World Cup record 15 saves against the Red Devils, who required two extra-time goals to ensure a quarter-final berth at USMNT’s expense.

Howard has played down his success, saying it counts for nothing as the Americans ultimately failed to progress, but this hasn’t stopped Ladbrokes offering a special price on the stopper picking up the top goalkeeping honour in Brazil.

After his string of saves, which sent Twitter and Vine into overdrive, Howard is priced at 12/1 to land the Golden Glove award and 50/1 to be named Time Person of the Year –  and with the former gong awarded by an independent panel that is simply too good a price to ignore.

While the Golden Boot award is most likely to go to a striker that plays in the latter rounds of the tournament the keeping prize is not awarded to the goalie who makes the most saves but instead the one that has impressed the panel the most – and Howard will take some beating.

The last four winners of the award – Iker Casillas, Gianluigi Buffon, Oliver Kahn and Fabien Barthez – have all played in the competition’s showpiece finale but 1994 winner Michel Preud’homme is proof that this is not a prerequisite.

Despite his Belgium side shipping three goals on the way to a second round knockout in the USA the panel saw enough in his performances to hand him the prize.

The 35-year-old has two years remaining on his Goodison Park contract and seems settled on Merseyside but after that display the Toffees, who are 11/10 favourites to win their Premier League opener with Leicester, could be fielding a few enquiries from top level clubs in the coming weeks.
