Two of planet earth’s greatest goal-scorers will face-off in Lisbon as they attempt to fire their respective countries through the play-offs and into next summer’s World Cup in Brazil. But who will score the most, Zlatan Ibrahimovic or Cristiano Ronaldo?
It’s a real travesty that next year’s World Cup will be robbed of one of Ronaldo and Ibrahimovic, though we may as well delight in their combined presence in the two play-off legs between Portugal and Sweden.
Better still; punters can make some money while watching these two absolute goal machines going at it, as Ladbrokes have set up a few match-bets to honour the occasion, starting with the first leg in Portugal.
The firm have deemed Ronaldo the 11/8 favourite to outscore Zlatan at 11/2 in the first game, while it’s 4/5 that they score the same amount.
Meanwhile, Ladbrokes also offer the individual player versus the opposing country in the same match-bet scenario.
It’s worth noting Ibrahimovic has been the more prolific in qualification, scoring six times to Ronaldo’s four and the Swede also has a better games-to-goals ratio for his country of just about a goal every two games compared to a goal just shy of every 2.5 for Mr Ronaldo.
To pick the more in-form player is tricky though, as both players arrive in Lisbon with truly remarkable recent stats.
Ronaldo has plundered nine in his last four in all competitions for Real Madrid, while Ibra has only racked up the eight in the same number of PSG appearances – including four in one Champions League game.
What a slouch.
