Southampton’s boy wonder Luke Shaw is regularly linked with a potential big-money move to a top Premier League club, though the latest reports from Spain suggest the 18-year-old sensation is now wanted by Real Madrid.

According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Shaw has been earmarked as a potential successor to the soon-to-be departing Fabio Coentrao, himself a target for several English clubs including Manchester United and Liverpool.

Also on Real Madrid’s radar is Guilherme Siqueira of Granada, who has enjoyed a very successful season on loan at Benfica and it’s believed that the Portuguese outfit are particularly keen to sign him permanently this summer.

This could well pave the way for Real to pursue Shaw, who has already appeared for England at just 18, picking up bucket-loads of plaudits en-route.

If he was to make the switch he would follow in the footsteps of fellow former Saints protégé, Gareth Bale – arriving as the world’s most expensive footballer last summer after a Southampton academy education via Totteham.

Having placed himself on the agenda of the world’s most famous club is true testament to what an outstanding breakthrough season Shaw has enjoyed in the Premier League.

This sort of interest from Los Blancos to follow that of United, Liverpool and Chelsea will only add to the clamour for Roy Hodgson to include Shaw – priced at 2/1 – to make it into his final 23-man World Cup squad.

Like the rest of the Saints’ impressive English contingent – where Shaw, Adam Lallana, Jay Rodriguez and Rickie Lambert can be backed at 16/1 as a quartet to make the England squad – the young left-back has been brilliant this season.

His captain, Lalllana, is already thought to be attracting interest from Chelsea and Liverpool, but given his tender years and exceptional talent it’s Shaw who has the greatest market value.

Southampton’s current valuation of the player is believed to be somewhere near the £30m mark.
