Germany and Argentina have successfully made the four steps required to reach the 2014 World Cup final and are now just 90 minutes away from either claiming a famous win or suffering unbearable heartbreak.

It’s the second time in four editions that the European giants of tournament football have reached the last match of the event, while for Argentina this showpiece represents their first experience of a World Cup final since 1990.

Incidentally, their opponents on that occasion were also Germany – albeit the West half – and it was La Albiceleste that had their dreams shattered as an Andreas Brehme penalty sealed a 1-0 win for the Franz Beckenbauer-managed side.

Now, with the 2014 remake just a few days away, Ladbrokes are offering their customers the chance to bet on lightning striking twice, as part of their Breaking Bets feature.

Argentina’s confirmation as Germany’s final opponents, via a penalty shootout with Holland, prompted the bookie to release odds of 90/1 that the outcome of 1990 is repeated.

For the bet to land, Germany must beat Argentina 1-0 with Joachim Loew’s side nabbing their goal from the penalty spot. Considering there’s been one goal or less in each of Argentina’s knockout-round matches, 90/1 looks a flutter well worth exploring.

That wasn’t the only bet released on Ladbrokes’ sportsbook news page though, as the company went 13/5 about a strong South American finish, with Argentina winning the World Cup and Brazil licking their wounds adequately enough to recover third place.

On the other side of the coin it’s 12/5 that Germany lift the World Cup trophy with Holland finishing third, while the very unwanted playoff gets a 14/1 price tag on being 0-0 – which would be the third straight Holland match to finish that way at these finals.
