Wolves striker Leigh Griffiths has opened the door to a move to Celtic after claiming it would be an “honour” to play for Neil Lennon’s side.

The 23-year-old, who is Wolves’ top scorer this season, has been out of favour with manager Kenny Jackett in recent weeks and is keeping his options open to a January transfer move.

“I have heard the rumours. Celtic are a massive club and it would be an honour to go and play for them. They are playing in the Champions League every season and have a tremendous squad.

“But it is speculation and the man you need to ask is Neil Lennon if the rumours are true. But if Celtic came in with a bid for me then it is definitely something I would consider.”

With speculation still surrounding Georgios Samaras’ future at Celtic Park and no new deal closer to being finalised, the Bhoys could turn to Griffiths in a bid to strengthen their attacking options as they bid for a SPL and Scottish Cup double.

The former Livingston striker has fired 13 goals this season for the League One side but is also a proven goalscorer in Scottish football.

Griffiths had a two season loan spell with Hibernian, boasting an impressive return of 31 goals in 66 games at Easter Road which alerted the Scottish national team to his talents.

The Hoops, who are on a run of 21 games unbeaten and 10 consecutive wins, may be 13 points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership with two games in hand on nearest rivals Aberdeen, who they face in the Fifth Round of the Scottish Cup, but Lennon is keen on adding to his squad this January.

While odds on Celtic retaining the Scottish Premiership are not available, they are on at 4/5 with Ladbrokes to lift the cup at Hampden Park and with Griffiths on board it would be hard to look past the double for Neil Lennon’s charges.
