With experimental line-ups, new signings and sides playing in unfamiliar stadiums, International Champions Cup games can be unpredictable as far as the betting goes. But if there’s one side you should back in pre-season it’s Manchester United.
The Red Devils face Real Madrid at California’s Levi’s Stadium on Sunday night, with Jose Mourinho’s men looking to continue their impressive pre-season form.
Having already beaten LA Galaxy (5-2) and Real Salt Lake (2-1) during this summer’s visit to the States, they head into this game in fine fettle, while their opponents haven’t taken to the field since the end of last season.
With the Old Trafford outfit having won six of their previous ICC games in 90 minutes – including a 2-1 defeat of Los Blancos in 2014 – we think they’re generously priced in the match betting at 2/1, with Real 23/20 and 12/5 for this clash to head to penalties.
One thing you can be sure of is goals. All of the last six meetings between the pair have seen both sides find the net, so the 8/15 for Both Teams to Score looks like easy money.
For the Premier League giants, there are two players catching our eye in the goalscorer markets. England international Marcus Rashford has struck three times in United’s trio of pre-season games thus far, so the 11/5 for the teenager to net anytime looks well-priced.
Fellow United hitman Romelu Lukaku has also chalked up a couple of goals on tour. The former Evertonian is 15/8 to find the net, while Luka Modric – who has scored against the Red Devils for two different clubs – is 7/2 to register at any point.
However, the best value of all could be on Man United to lead at half-time and win. They’ve done just that in each of their last five outings – competitive or otherwise – and are 17/4 to repeat the feat this weekend.
