Who is… Leicester’s versatile midfield signing Daniel Amartey?

They may be in the middle of the most unlikely title-challenge in Premier League history, but Leicester are taking it seriously as signalled by the arrival of Ghanaian Daniel Amartey from FC Copenhagen.

The Danish side have accepted a bid from the Foxes, believed to be around £5-6m for the 21-year-old who can play in midfield or defence.

Amartey has been a near ever-present for the capital club, only missing three matches through suspension.

The youngster already has experience of winning trophies, helping his club lift the Danish Cup last season.

The midfielder began his career in his native country with International Allies, where he was spotted by Djurgarden boss Magnus Pehrsson, who subsequently arranged Amartey’s transfer upon his 18th birthday.

The step up in quality proved to be of no concern for the youngster, who produced a succession of impressive performances in his debut campaign in the Allsvenskan, receiving a host of plaudits at the season’s conclusion.

Amartey attracted attention from Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool during his spell with Djurgarden, but it was Copenhagen who would be his next destination, in a £2.5m move in July 2014.

Quickly a part of the first team, the Ghanaian was a key part of the side which finished second last season, in addition to that cup success.

Leicester had a bid for Amartey rejected in the summer, but it looks like Ranieri won’t be denied second time around.

An intelligent player renowned for a superb work rate, Amartey’s arrival is just the latest indicator that Leicester intent on sticking around at the top end of the Premier League.
