The type of transfer rumour that floats around in the press usually revolves a big name player moving to the Premier League, but the latest speculated Liverpool target doesn’t fit that brief.
Piotr Zielinski is a 21-year-old Polish midfielder who will be practically unheard of by anyone outside of Italy or his homeland.
Zielinski currently plies his trade at Empoli, on loan from Udinese, and has been capped ten times by his national side.
He has been impressing so far in Serie A and is a big part of the Florence-based club’s surprisingly strong league performance this season.
The Azzurri are currently eighth in the table and have won nine of their 21 outings despite being a team touted for relegation.
Zielinski has been a big part of this and has contributed to his sides’ cause with two goals and four assists from the centre of the park.
Additionally, he has played at every level for Poland, all the way up from the Under 15 squad up to the senior team.
In this regard, he has found the net for his country 12 times across all age groups and is expected to feature heavily in Euro 2016.
A move to Anfield would be a big step up for the 21-year-old, but he has already proved he is able to handle pressure.
Playing in Serie A means he is regularly up against midfielders with bags of quality such as Paul Pogba, Daniele De Rossi and Marek Hamsik , with Zielinski able to go toe to toe with these top-class players.
Jordan Henderson, Lucas Leiva, Emre Can and Joe Allen would be in front of Zielinski getting a starting place, but his age means he will get a chance at Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp has demonstrated that he is willing to give youngsters a chance, with and this would allow the Polish transfer target to flourish.
