West Ham United interested in Sporting CP midfield star?

West Ham United could be about to take their summer spending to over £40m with a move for Sporting CP midfielder William Carvalho.

The Hammers are still in the market for a midfielder and Carvalho represents real value for money in an inflated market.

The 25-year-old is rumoured to be available for £25m.

A defensive midfielder by trade, the Portuguese also hit two goals in 32 appearances last season as Sporting finished third behind Porto and Benfica in Primeira Liga.

His addition would provide the anchor that West Ham need in midfield and free up other players to be more attacking.

Unlike fellow contemporary N’Golo Kante, Carvalho also has an excellent range of passing that would benefit a rejuvenated Hammers attacking line.

He also offers Champions League experience and would represent something of a coup for Irons manager Slaven Bilic.

We reckon the 10/3 on Carvalho moving to the London Stadium is an excellent price.

However, London rivals Arsenal have also been sniffing around the European Championship winner.

Gunners manager Arsene Wenger still has plenty of cash left to spend this summer and the cut-price Carvalho is right up the Frenchman’s street.

The North Londoners have been linked with the Angola-born Portugal international for a number of years and could finally make their move.

Our traders go 5/1 for the Gooners edge out their London rivals for his signature.
