West Brom and Spurs to do each other no favours by drawing

Precariously perched two places above the drop zone, West Brom are desperate for three precious points to help lift them clear. However, with their Champions League dream still just about alive, Tottenham will have other ideas.

Especially as the Lilywhites arrive at the Hawthorns with a great Premier League away record and fresh from matching their biggest win of the season by pummelling Sunderland 5-1.

Only Manchester United have recorded more wins than the nine Tottenham have clocked up on the road, while wins against Newcastle and United represent the only times the Baggies have overcome opposition from the top-half of the league all season.

Armed with such information, punters would be forgiven for plumping straight for Spurs’ price of 13/10 to win the match, rather than the 21/10 on offer for a home win.

However, given the respective ambitions on the line here and West Brom’s record of sharing the spoils at home against the top sides, the draw at 12/5 is the most sensible option.

Remarkably, four of the current top five in the Premier League have gone to the Hawthorns and all left for home after 1-1 draws.

In fact, Pepe Mel’s side are the serial drawers of the top-flight and had they managed to turn just a few of their 14 draws (eight at home) into wins then they wouldn’t be in this sticky position.

A fifth successive 1-1 draw against a top-six side here in the form of Tim Sherwood’s visitors pays out handsomely at 6/1.

This is also the exact same result from the reverse fixture at White Hart Lane.

Meanwhile, if backing scorers is more your bag then don’t ignore in-form Christian Eriksen for Spurs at 5/2 anytime or Morgan Amalfitano for the Baggies at 4/1.
