The Leonardo Ulloa saga has taken yet another turn this afternoon after Sunderland ruled themselves of the running for the Leicester City man’s signature.
It was the third bid of the day from the Black Cats, who were willing to part ways with £7.5m for the Argentine’s services.
But David Moyes will now turn his attention elsewhere, which means we have a new favourite at the head of the market: West Bromwich Albion.
The Baggies are now just 5/4 to add the former Brighton & Hove Albion man to their ranks this evening, having been 5/2 a few hours ago.
It’s something we expected to happen earlier this morning, but it now appears as though the Baggies will secure a deal for the 30-year-old before the transfer window slams shut tonight.
West Brom boss Tony Pulis is desperately short of options up-front following Saido Berahino’s departure last week.
It leaves the Welsh boss with just two recognised strikers in Salomon Rondon and Hal Robson-Kanu.
The latter is considered a back-up player at the Hawthorns at very most, meaning Pulis could do with a fresh pair of legs to ease the burden on Rondon.
And he won’t get much better than Premier League winner Ulloa.
We’d be extremely surprised if the former Stoke City boss added nobody to his ranks today. He stated earlier this month that he was looking to bring in ‘three or four’ new players, but as things stand only Jake Livermore has arrived at the Black Country outfit.
With long-term target Odion Ighalo seemingly set for a move to China, and deals for Callum Wilson and Scott Hogan looking increasingly unlikely, the Baggies might just spend in excess of £10m on Ulloa so as to get a deal over the line.
