The Arsenal rose garden looks set for another bloom with the news that their long-serving manager Arsene Wenger and defenders Per Mertesacker and Bacary Sagna are set to sign new Gunners contracts.

Barely 12 months have passed since many Arsenal fans were calling for his head, but with the Gunners currently sitting top of the Premier League pile, their spiritual leader is finally ready to put pen to paper on a new deal.

Although the London club are yet to make an official statement concerning Wenger, it’s believed they are only stalling in order to include imminent deals for Germany international Mertesacker and long-time right-back Sagna as part of the proclamation.

Waiting to make this contract renewal triple-whammy public seems to follow the club’s recent penchant for a big announcement, after Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain, Kieron Gibbs and Carl Jenkinson’s extensions were all revealed in one hit 13 months ago.

After returning to the Premier League summit with victory over Aston Villa, these prospective deals reinforce the unity at the Emirates and the feeling this is the season they will finally break their trophy drought.

Despite being top of the table, Arsenal remain the 4/1 third-favourites to claim the English title, though Wenger’s commitment offers further assurance that the Londoners will be there until the death this season and possibly for the next few years to come.

Mertesacker, 29, will be a key component in the second-half of their campaign and deserves enormous credit for his part in establishing Arsenal’s defence as the meanest in the land, especially after his early troubles in adapting to the pace of the English game.

The giant German will be extending his stay for another two years in north London.

Meanwhile, 30-year-old Sagna, who has been back to his best at right-back this season, is the one still looking to tie up a new deal before the announcement goes public, as he is out of contract in the summer.
