Louis van Gaal has claimed Manchester United’s primary strike target is a player not previously linked with the club but fans say the Dutchman is lying, according to a new poll.
After news leaked of a £69m bid for Bayern Munich ace Thomas Muller, Van Gaal attempted to play down speculation by claiming the media have yet to catch on to who he feels is the ideal man to partner Wayne Rooney in the Red Devils’ attack.
However, the latest Ladbrokes News poll asked readers to vote on who they think the mystery forward in the United manager’s sights is and Muller emerged as the winner.
The German, who according to Bayern captain Philip Lahm is not certain to stay at the Allianz Arena, was the most popular choice with 28 per cent of the votes.
Completing the top three and suggesting Van Gaal will search closer to home for attacking talent was West Brom’s English ace Saido Berahino.
The Baggies forward is keen to step up from life at the Hawthorns and 21 per cent of our readers think that new challenge could be offered by the Old Trafford club.
Real Madrid ace Karim Benzema has long been linked with a move to the 20-time English champions and while the papers have Arsenal down as leading the race for the Frenchman, 15 per cent of you think the former Lyon ace will line-up alongside Rooney next season.
And finally, completing the poll is PSG’s Edinson Cavani. The Uruguayan is as short as 11/8 to be a United player next season but with just 11 per cent of the votes it seems the Stretford End are less than convinced.
