Unwanted Chelsea man will be perfect signing for Norwich

Norwich City are rumoured to be looking into the possibility of signing Patrick Bamford from Chelsea and finally granting the young forward the opportunity to show his worth in the Premier League.

Bamford had a spell at Crystal Palace earlier in the season, but only managed six top-flight appearances, while he is yet to play a competitive fixture for the Blues.

The 22-year-old has been outstanding when playing for clubs in the Football League and his scoring records show that.

Last season at Middlesbrough, Bamford found the net 17 times en-route to the Teesiders making it to the Championship play-off final.

Indeed, the Chelsea man was so impressive for the Riverside outfit that he was awarded the Football League Championship Player of the Year.

Boro aside, the England Under 21 international has shown his worth during spells at Derby County and MK Dons.

While on loan at the second-tier Rams, Bamford managed to get his name on the scoresheet on eight occasions in 21 appearances, with seven of those coming from the bench.

The transfer could be extra sweet for the Canaries as they will not have to deal with trying to pry away a Championship team’s star player.

Bamford is clearly surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge and this will bring his fee down to much less than a Football League key player normally commands.

For example, when Bournemouth brought Benik Afobe in from Wolverhampton Wanderers in this very window they had to part with £10million.

Similarly, Ross McCormack commanded a fee of £11million when he moved from Leeds United to Fulham after leading the second-tier scoring charts.

The Blues are unlikely to demand such a fee given Bamford’s lack of importance at Stamford Bridge, but he is of similar, if not better, quality than the two players mentioned and the Canaries would be able to get him on the cheap.
