Tottenham will look to finally sign Anthony Martial this summer, having fallen short in their bid for the French winger two years ago.

Spurs had all but agreed an £18.1m deal with Monaco in 2015, only for talks to break down and Manchester United to swoop in, offering double the money.

But Martial’s future at Old Trafford has been under intense speculation in recent months, as the forward fails to impress new United boss Jose Mourinho.

The 21-year-old has been left out time and time again since the turn of the year, although he did net in the 2-0 win over Watford last time out.

But with United seemingly confident of signing Antoine Griezmann this summer, Martial may yet fall even further down the pecking order.

Tottenham currently sit third in the Premier League table, and Mauricio Pochettino’s men are firmly in the middle of a fierce scrap to land a Champions League spot.

But the north Londoners sit a full 10 points off the league leaders, and another title tilt has faded away.

And if there is one criticism to be made of Pochettino’s side, it’s that they lack out-and-out pace in the forward roles.

None of Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen, Erik Lamela or Dele Alli are renowned for running with the ball at pace.

Indeed, that’s why the pace and energy of Kyle Walker and Danny Rose have become integral to Spurs’ style in recent seasons.

Signing Martial this summer would go a very long way to solving that dilemma – especially if they rediscover the player who shone with 17 goals in his first season in England.

Comments from Mourinho in the press suggest the Frenchman is in control of his own future, but we’ve known the Special One to be publicly deceiving in the past.
