Mark Hughes has wasted no time in attempting to rebuild the squad he inherited this week, with QPR linked with no less than five players.

Chelsea confirmed they have received a bid for Alex from an unnamed Premier League club, which is widely believed to have emanated from their London rivals.

A £5m bid for Blackburn central defender Chris Samba has also been made this week by Hughes, seemingly indicating that he is focusing on strengthening the foundations of the leaky team he has taken charge of firstly.

How successful these attempts to enhance his defensive ranks will be remains to be seen however, with both the aforementioned talents reportedly keen to seal a lucrative contract with Paris St Germain.

The French club is unlikely to bring in both players though, which could leave Hughes in the driving seat to secure at least one of their signatures.

Sulley Muntari has also been identified as a potential transfer target, as ‘Sparky’ looks to add some bite to his midfield in the absence of the suspended Joey Barton and the injured Alejandro Faurlin, whose supremacy in the middle will be sorely missed by Rangers.

Hughes is also looking to add some flair and firepower to his ranks, as he aims to steer the Rs away from the drop zone, which they currently teeter precariously above.

The Welshman has reportedly bid for unsettled Tottenham midfielder Steven Pienaar, who would add some much-needed invention and creativity to a team that averages less than a goal a game in the Premier League.

In addition, Roque Santa Cruz, signed twice by Hughes in the past, is supposedly being targeted by the former Manchester City boss to ease the burden on top scorer Heidar Helguson.

Santa Cruz is currently on loan at Spanish outfit Real Betis, but it is thought that he would relish the chance to reunite with Hughes, while City would be delighted to remove him from their wage bill permanently.
