The new Premier League season is finally upon us, but for the clubs and managers, that may only serve as a reminder of how little time they have until the summer transfer window slams shut.

Tottenham and Everton are two such clubs who may be sweating a little, with each suffering troubled summers.

Spurs have signed just two – albeit very good – players, but the departure of chief scout Paul Mitchell hints at some big problems behind the scenes regarding player recruitment at White Hart Lane.

And as for Everton, new boss Ronald Koeman has spent most of the summer trying to keep the players he’s got rather than attract new faces.

Fans of both teams are understandably a little on edge as the new campaign kicks off, with more business required and expected from each club in the coming weeks.

And a new name to emerge this week as a potential target for the north Londoners (and an old one for Everton), is Sporting’s Adrien Silva.

The talented midfielder is believed to be available for a reasonable £13m.

Silva played a major role to help Portugal win this summer’s European Championship, and French outlet L’equipe are linking Spurs with a move.

Everton have already been connected with the 27-year-old this summer, who scored eight times while providing six assists from 29 league games last season.

It was the third season in a row where Silva had directly contributed to ten goals or more in a league campaign.

It’s not hard to envisage Silva slotting in at either Goodison Park or White Hart Lane, given his excellent talent on the ball, plus excellent link-up play and movement.

With both teams running out of time to make suitable signings following difficult summers, Silva could provide one of the last opportunities to bring genuine quality.

But which side will land his signature?

As luck would have it, the two sides face off this afternoon in Merseyside, with Everton 9/4 and Tottenham 7/5 in a game which could only further expose each team’s need for another signing or two.
