Leicester to win 2016-17 Premier League

It’s been a rollercoaster ride for Leicester City this season, and that’s been the case too for those who backed the Foxes for an unlikely Premier League title before the season got underway.

At 5000/1, Leicester were given no hope to mount a title challenge this year, having barely survived relegation last season.

But that wasn’t enough to deter 47 Ladbrokes customers, who backed the East Midlands side to sweep all aside under new boss Claudio Ranieri.

We’ve never seen a 5000/1 winner before, and we might never again, so here are the numbers from those pre-season punts…

Total Number of bets placed pre-season – 47 @ 5000/1

Number of cash-outs – 24

Biggest Cash out – £72,000 – an industry record

Biggest pay-outs – £100,000 from a £20 bet and a £67,000 pay-out from a £10 E/W bet.

We’ve now paid out £25,000 to one punter who placed £5 pre-season, and another £10,000 on a £2 wager.

Meanwhile, a host of punters have turned £1 into £5,000 and we’ve also rewarded a number of customers who placed 10p bets to return £500.

It’s safe to say Leicester’s title win will live long in the memory, and that will certainly be the case here.

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said:”The greatest sporting story of all time is no longer a dream. Leicester have officially landed the biggest upset ever seen and when it comes to this story going straight to Hollywood all bets are off.”

“We may be paying out record sums to Leicester backers but we do so with a smile and we have to applaud the handful of fans who took the mammoth odds at the start of the season. It’s been a thrill to be involved in this story from the off for a company which such a passion for sport.”

The win for Leicester has also been hailed as a game-changer by our traders, having been forced to hand over £3m to winning customers.

Donohue added: “The days of 5000/1 are over. We’ll never be so generous with odds again for an underdog, but we still forecast up to 50 times as much betting interest in outsiders for the title next season”.

Leicester City are 33/1 to win back-to-back titles with 100/1 offered about them winning the Champions League at the first attempt.
