Swift La Liga return could be on cards for Man Utd record signing

As rumours continue to swirl that Angel Di Maria’s former Real Madrid teammate Sergio Ramos may be Old Trafford bound this summer, another whisper has surfaced speculating that Manchester United’s record signing could be heading in the opposite direction.

Only not directly back to the Bernabeu, rather to the Camp Nou to join up with Real’s arch rivals Barcelona.

Spanish website ‘Sport’ have made the splash, claiming Barca’s treble-winning coach Luis Enrique has identified Di Maria as the archetypal player needed to improve his squad.

The notion that the all-conquering European champions require upgrading is quite remarkable, but standing still is not an option at the very highest level and Enrique is too astute to rest on his sizeable laurels.

According to the same report, the former Barcelona midfielder is also acutely aware of Di Maria’s joyless first season in English football and rumoured desires to take the fastest ticket out of United and more widely the Premier League if possible.

Having achieved the pinnacle of club football as a Champions League winner with Madrid, audiences in Spain are well aware of what a confident Di Maria can bring to the table.

Enrique is believed to hanker for a player adept at breaking the lines from midfield with pace, and that was Di Maria’s calling card under Carlo Ancelotti at Los Blancos.

Indeed, before his role was confused by Louis van Gaal at United, Di Maria had just shone under the brightest spotlight of all in Brazil playing on the left of a midfield trio for Argentina.

Still, having broken the British transfer record to bring him to England, the 13-time Premier League champions will not approach the sale lightly and may want to see just a little more for their investment.
