Following a hugely impressive debut campaign in the Premier League for newly promoted Swansea in 2011/12, a nasty leg-break then kept Wales international left-back Neil Taylor sidelined for the majority of last season.

Unfortunately for Taylor, fellow countryman Ben Davies excelled in his absence and that has led to the former first choice defender settling for an understudy role in the Premier League this season, making most of his 17 appearances in cup competitions.

Understandably, the talented 25-year-old has become frustrated at the Liberty as even a change in manager has failed to facilitate a return to the starting line-up.

“Ultimately I want to play football and every player would tell you the same. I need games,” said Taylor, who was the subject of a speculative £4m bid from Fulham in January.

With Fulham looking increasingly doomed at 1/8 to be relegated as the run-in takes shape, it seems highly unlikely Taylor will be looking to join the Cottagers this summer now, but there are sure to be plenty of other good options.

Of those clubs in need of a new left-back, it’s 13/2 title-chasers Liverpool who perhaps fit the bill best, thanks to Taylor’s previous association with Reds boss Brendan Rodgers.

Having relied on Taylor as his first-choice left-back in both Swansea’s promotion season and then in the following top-flight campaign, Rodgers clearly rates the 25-year-old.

Rodgers wasn’t shy in pilfering Joe Allen from his former employers and having decided not to sign loan-man Aly Cissokho on a permanent basis at the end of the season, Liverpool are clearly in the market for a left-back.

Taylor’s career may have stalled at Swansea, but Rodgers may just be the man to resurrect it on a grand stage.
