New Sunderland boss Chris Coleman is reportedly looking to sign Liverpool aces Ben Woodburn and Danny Ward on-loan.

The ex-Wales international manager recently took up the post on Wearside and is already looking to bolster his squad.

With neither player near first-team duty at present, Liverpool are said to be willing to let the young duo leave on a short-term basis.

Having already worked with both players with the Welsh senior squad, Coleman will be familiar with the pair’s qualities.

And in particular, Woodburn would be a huge coup. The 18-year-old has been making waves this season with some eye-catching appearances for his country.

He scored with a rasping strike to beat Austria and set up the winner against Moldova in the following game.

Jurgen Klopp is a huge admirer of the young star and will likely be keen to see him reunited with his former manager for a few months.

Ward impressed between the posts for Huddersfield last season on-loan during their promotion campaign. However, he is unlikely to uproot one of Loris Karius or Simon Mignolet anytime soon.

Robbin Ruitter had an absolute nightmare against Millwall at the Stadium of Light on Saturday against Millwall.

The Dutchman let in two of the softest goals you’ll ever see. Mind you, his opposite number made some equally hilarious gaffes in a comedy of errors.

Coleman is said to be keen to bring in a solid option ahead of a vital six months that will make or break Sunderland’s season.

The Black Cats are languishing at the foot of the Championship table and face a serious struggle to avoid relegation.

Owner, Ellis Short has put the North-East club up for sale so Coleman won’t have an abundance of riches to buy new players.

Instead, the former Fulham boss will have to rely mostly on the loan market to get his new squad out of the mire.

If he can nab Woodburn and Ward on short-term deals, it’ll be a step in the right direction.
