Sunderland in for a Kane-ing when Spurs arrive on Wearside

If recent meetings between Sunderland and Tottenham are anything to go by, Sunday’s lunchtime clash should be an entertaining one, especially with Harry Kane honing his sights with England in the build up.

It’s been a topsy turvy start to the season for both clubs in actual fact with neither yet able to register a first win of their respective Premier League campaigns.

Dick Advocaat’s men deserve some credit for recording successive draws having begun with a pair of disastrous defeats to potential relegation rivals Leicester and Norwich to kick things off.

Meanwhile, it’s largely been a frustrating start to Mauricio Pochettino’s second term in charge at White Hart Lane.

Spurs were arguably the better side when losing to Manchester United in the very first match of the whole season and have since lacked a killer instinct when drawing with Stoke, Leicester and Everton subsequently.

This spate of drawing for both clubs could easily draw punters towards the 13/5 on another occurring on Wearside, but as mentioned above there is one man in Spurs squad who could well make the difference.

Spurs are 19/20 favourites for victory, ahead of the Black Cats at 3/1, and Kane’s goal-scoring cameos in both Euro 2016 qualifiers for his country makes the former bet the one to plump for.

Without a goal in his opening four matches for his club, some daft folk had already began to question the prowess of the Premier League’s scoring sensation of last season, but a brace for England will have done Kane’s confidence wonders.

Having picked his spot perfectly against a stern Swiss defence on Tuesday, finding a way past the leakiest defence in the top-flight this season – Sunderland have conceded 10 times already – shouldn’t be a problem.

Kane notching in a Spurs win is a 2/1 chance, a deadlock-breaking strike pays out at 7/2, and two or more Kane goals looks a corker at 5/1*.

Those not willing to put all eggs in a Kane –shaped basket may wish to take Ladbrokes up on the 9/4 a fourth match in five for
Sunderland returns over 3.5 goals, especially as seven goals were shared against Spurs over two games last season.
